C-Section Post: LOVED it

I must admit I loved my decision to have another c-section this time around. With Little Man I tried to have him the good ol' fashion way but it just didn't work out for us. This time I walked right into the OR and I swear Dr. Burke from Grey's was standing in front of me. That was pretty comforting to see a familiar face, it kinda lighten the mood. Well for me it did. Ha ha. I got up on the table and before I knew it my Doctor was telling me he saw black hair. I heard his sweet cry and then after they cleaned him off and wrapped him up and brought him to me.

The best part was that he was allowed to go into recovery with me. Little Man didn't get to join me and I didn't get to see him for hours after his birth. This time was so enjoyable because my son was able to stay with me for so long. I never felt like I missed him. I was able to start breastfeeding right away. It was while I was breastfeeding that I realized what I was going to name my son. We had been trying to decide for a while, well 9 months what we should name our baby and even on the way to the hospital we didn't know. It's amazing how you just know when you are holding your baby what you should call them.

I loved not having to labor this time and the bonding I felt with my baby this time.
It all felt pretty perfect for a while.

Book Club

So I have a book club that I attend with some friends. I will not lie and tell you that I always read the books. I rarely do. It is odd that I don't read them because I used to be a big reader. I would go through about 2-3 books a week. Somewhere along the path of life I have not been as good as I once was. I believe my turn to host book club will be coming up soon and have put some thought into which book I will pick. I have decided to pick my all time favorite book I have ever read. The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom. It is a true story about Corrie and her family and how they were sent to a concentration camp for hiding Jews in their home. I have never in my life seen a family that had such faith in Jesus Christ and have been forever touched by their story. I think I need to reread it again, but I know with all these hormones I will be one big baby while doing so. I know this because it was a tear jerker the last time I read it and I wasn't even expecting.
You should check it out and enjoy it for yourselves.

Time Out for Mommy.

I was reading an book the other day that talked about time out for moms. I loved the way the author talked about how we need to have patience for our children even when they are having major meltdowns and tantrums. It will help the realize how they should behave when things aren't going the way they want them to go. She talked about how if you are going to loose your temper you should walk away go to the bathroom or another room give your self a moment to have a quick "time out" regain your thoughts and your patience. I realized I was already doing this sometimes. All though I could think of moments where I wish I had taken a time out.

It reminds me of a poem by Dorothy Law Nolte-

If children live with criticism,
they learn to condemn.

If children live with kindness and consideration,
they learn respect.

I want my children to not just be good rounded citizens of America I want them to have patience, love, appreciation and I want them to learn truthfulness. I want my children to learn these qualities from me their mother. So I see some things I need to work on. Patience would be my biggest weakness at the moment. So this month I will be working on showing patience to my son and my husband. Hopefully one day LM will look back at who his mother was and describe me as a patient woman of God.

WoW. This is harder than I thought.

I told you one of my new years resolutions is to be a better mother. That alone can cover just about a billion topics in my head. I am going to start by having a better organized and structured day for my son and myself. They say this is good for children so....I sat down to make our new schedule for our days and nothing came to mind. Really is it that hard to make a schedule for a 18 month old? So I hit up my good friend google. It went something like this.

Dear Google,

Yes, it is me again. Well could you please tell me what kind of schedule my son should be on?
I am sure to be back later this week.
muah,
Pink

Google never disappoints me. Now I have this awesome schedule I cannot wait to try out with LM. I just need a bit more time to prepare. And LM is sick with the stomach bug so we really won't start until next week. We are going to attempt something like this..........
-Get up and eat breakfast.
-He can watch some toons while I get ready and (gasp) make the bed.
-School time- this is anything from learning letters to colors and animals. Lets do some arts and crafts....this is where I need more time to prepare.
-Free play-roam the house and do whatever he wants to do.
-lunch time
-quite time-read some books maybe some baby signing time.
-NAP time. :)
-Snack
-go outside and play or just run errands
-Free play again.
-cook dinner/eat
- Play with daddy
-Bedtime routine.

You will notice there are no time frames for this, because lets face it, he may only do school time for 10 minutes. But for those 10 I will feel like I am doing something important with my son. I will know the day did not go by wasted.

Question: is your child on a set schedule and do you like it? Or like not having one?

Um... that is dark.

So I told my sister Rae that I wanted to dye my hair darker. My husband always talks about black hair and how much he likes really dark hair. So I asked Rae to pick up the hair dye because I was car less the other day. When she got to my house she had black hair dye. I was really nervous when I saw it. But when my husband couldn't stop telling me how much he liked it I knew I made a great choice to do it.
Oh and the little bits of white you see in my hair is from the snow we got here in GA yesterday. Not much at all but enough for it to be so cold.

Hanny Manny

Will he ever confess his love for Kelly?
Will she ever stop giving him all her supplies for free?
Will Mr. Lopart ever realize he is not a handyman?
Will I really care this much for my child's TV shows forever?

2010

I have never been into creating new years resolutions. However this year I think I want to make some for myself. I have days like I am sure many of you do, where you feel like you aren't the best mother your child deserves. I don't want to feel like this any more. So one of my biggest goals this year is to not be lazy when it comes to my child. If that means turning off the TV more and turning away from blogging some then so be it. I want to do more creative activities with him and enjoy all the simple things that he enjoys. Hold him more when he wants to be held and kiss him when he wants to be kissed. I was thinking last night that this is the only chance I have when it comes to raising my son and I don't want to miss a moment. So to all of my faithful readers just know I will be mommy first and blogger second. I was feeling guilty for not writing more during the holidays but my son was sick first, then I was sick and now my husband is sick. I shouldn't feel guilty for not writing to all of you my friends when I should be tending to my family. I hope you are all on board for more regular random moments of my life posts and maybe not as many giveaways. Don't worry I still will have giveaways. I just cannot keep up with doing a ton in one week. I love all of you my readers and hope that you have some goals set for the next year. I will keep you posted on how I am doing and we can all change for the better this year.

Did you set any goals for 2010? If so leave a comment and lets chat about it.

I have always been a night owl.....

I just knew that when I had a baby they would be too. Then we would both sleep in everyday and be very happy. Well I am still a night owl but my baby is a early bird. I don't understand how he can be so happy in the mornings even more so when he wakes up at 6:30. This week he has been waking up at 5:30am. What the heck. I was just telling my sister-in-law that I remember telling my mother-in-law that my baby didn't sleep very good because he woke up too early. She asked what time and the new mother in me thought him waking up at 8 am was early! I laugh so hard when I think back on that. Last night I prayed that my sweet Little Man would sleep at least to 6:30 again. He slept to 8:oo and then played in his crib for 20 minutes while I got up and made breakfast. Oh talk about sweet prayers being answered! Just had to share my good news!

Doing nothings at all.

So today is one of those days where I feel like doing nothing at all!
My baby is fast asleep taking his nap and I am sitting here wondering what I should do. I know I should be doing the laundry, reading books and even cleaning. But I don't feel like it. So today I hope all you other mommies out there will work twice as hard for me so I won't feel guilty! I think this is a well deserved break from telling my son all day long he cannot play with the toilet or keyboard or pull the vent out of the floor. I wish I could hid all of these items from him but he knows how to open each protective barrier I put in front of him. Can I really get upset that he is a baby genius?
