Positive Parenting Solutions: Review and Giveaway

While pregnant with my son Daniel I was stressing over the fact that LM and I were having power struggle after power struggle. I wrote about it in a few posts like HERE and HERE.
I felt like I had no control over my children, especially at bedtime. I was embarrassed that I had to lie in bed with my son for over an hour to get him to go to sleep. I just didn't know what else to do. I knew the form of discipline I didn't want to use (spanking, yelling, etc.), but that's all I knew. I needed to find a form of discipline that I could feel good about and that actually worked.
So one night after a 3 hour struggle at bedtime, I was exhausted and wished my husband would come home to help me. I sat at the computer and asked my dear friend google to solve my problems. While searching, I came across a parenting article that asked several questions about bedtime routines.
*Do you lay in bed until your child falls asleep?
*Are you constantly retrieving just one more item for you child at bedtime?
*Does bedtime leave you feeling stressed?

Yes, yes and yes. The list went on and I continued nodding my head like a bobble-head doll on a dash bored. It then directed me to Positive Parenting Solutions.

Hmmm.... I had read loads of books and they never really seemed to work with my determined and independent child. However, I wanted to believe that somehow my son and I both could enjoy bedtime....and still have him asleep by 8:30.
Amy McCready is the founder of Positive Parenting Solutions. You may have seen her on Rachel Ray, Martha Stewart, Msnbc, Fox and Friends and countless other articles. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Penn State University and is certified as a Positive Discipline Parent Educator. Not only is she highly educated on the subject, but she is a mother as well. This was very important to me. I knew that I could trust her advice because she used it in her own daily life. I knew that as a mother herself, she could truly appreciate and relate the struggles that I was having.

Positive Parenting Solutions is a series of online lessons that teach you how to effectively interact with your children. The program not only teaches you very effective tools and techniques, it also gives you insight into why your children behave the way they do. This was a huge revelation to me and my husband. As soon as we were able to understood the reason for our child's behavior, we were able to see them in a new light. The tools and techniques were very simple and yet extremely effective. We saw instant results as we began implementing Amy's program.

While we haven't mastered all of the tools, we have dramatically improved our family time together. We have fewer and fewer battles and more time enjoying each other. I can say that for the most part, the frustrations I was experiencing are almost nonexistent. Now when conflicts arise (as they most certainly do with a two year old), my husband and I know what to do. We feel like we can handle any situation that may present itself. We have the tools, techniques, and confidence that we had been lacking. The greatest part of this program is that it has showed us how guide our children with love and respect by teaching them the consequences of their actions and NOT forcing them to do our will through fear and punishment.

I went and just looked at the titles of some the sessions and one said that time out is a waste of time. I can see that might be the case and I'd be very interested to hear the what's and why's she has to offer.

I watched the first session and learned that the most important thing is to make your child feel significant and like they belong.
