Christmas List: Review & Giveaway Your Baby Can Read.

You may have heard of Robert Titzer's program, Your Baby Can Read! Having children who have a hard time understanding phonics, I knew it would be challenging to teach my girls to read. I have wanted to try this program for a long time and was super excited with the opportunity to see how it worked!
Basically it focuses more on memorizing the way a word looks (like sight words) than phonics, which is a great way for younger children and children with learning disabilities to learn to read. Little Miss and Little Man especially enjoyed the cards. It is teaching them that the letters make up sounds (words) which have definite meanings. The cards combine the words, sounds and pictures to help them understand the connection between letters and reading. The children loved being able to hear the word and then pull the card apart to see the image of the word.

(You must see this movie!)

In the DVD, the words change in order, font and color, so that the children don't just memorize the word in a single context. My Chunky Monkey and Little Miss both LOVED the DVD and the cards. Chunky Monkey really enjoyed the DVD! She started picking up the words immediately and by the third DVD viewing was already saying them before she heard them. I tried some cards separate from the program with some of the same words and she still recognized them and was able to read them. I would have never thought that my little 4 year old with Down Syndrome would be reading, but she is!! This is a great program and I would recommend it to anyone with young children or children who are having a hard time with phonics.

Brain Development is roughly 90% complete at age five, so it’s necessary to be your child’s first teacher, before they start kindergarten.
